Planning your Wedding

Planning your wedding will probably be the most important event you will ever organise and you will want everything to be perfect.  If you want everything to be perfect on your wedding day you will have to organise the event like a carefully planned campaign.  It is advisable to enlist as much help when planning your wedding as you can, because there is a lot of research and a lot or work to do when planning your wedding.

Initially you and your partner should decide on what kind of a wedding you want to have.  Is it to be formal or informal, big or small?  When planning your wedding you should consider what time of year you wish your wedding to be.  While the summer months are always popular, a winter wedding can be lovely and also often costs a lot less.

The most important thing when planning your wedding is to set a wedding budget because the costs of a wedding can soon spin out of control and you don’t really want to spend the first few years of married life paying off the bill for the wedding.  Once you have set a wedding budget you should give consideration to whether you want to do all the wedding planning yourself or whether you want to hire a wedding planner.  It can be tempting to hand over all the arrangements to a wedding planner, but remember that they don’t come cheap.  On the other hand, if you have a large wedding budget it can be well worth it to pay someone else to take over the wedding planning and co-ordinating.  It will save you a lot of stress, especially in the last few weeks before the wedding.

You need to decide whether you want to buy or hire your wedding dress, or whether you want to have it made.  If you hire your wedding dress you should do this at least six months in advance to make sure that you get as wide a choice as possible.  Once you have chosen your wedding dress you should also get the wedding accessories, such as veil and shoes and also organise the bridesmaids’ dresses.

If you have chosen popular wedding venues it is of the utmost importance to book early.  Beautiful little churches and lakeside hotels and restaurants get booked up very quickly, especially in summer.  It would make sense to pick two or three wedding venues that you might like and then check out availability.  If you live in a large house with a large garden you might want to have the reception at home and employ wedding caterers.  If employing wedding caterers remember to book them early as they get very busy, especially in the summer.    If you are having the wedding reception at home you need to decide whether you need extra equipment, such as tables, chairs and marquees as well as china and glasses.

You will need to book your wedding photographer in good time as the best ones usually have very full diaries.  Choose a wedding photographer that will suit you and your style of wedding.  If you are having a wedding on a grand scale you do not want a wedding photographer that specializes in small village type weddings.  It is a good idea to visit a few wedding photographers to discuss your needs and get a look at their previous work.  You will be paying quite a lot of money for your wedding photographer and you will want your weddings photos to look perfect.

Last, but not least, choose your honeymoon destination and book early to avoid disappointment.  The honeymoon destination will be entirely down to your taste.  A tropical island may look magical, but if you are both the type who enjoy looking at old buildings and art galleries, you may be better off with a city break maybe in one of the old European cities.

While planning your wedding is a lot of hard work, don’t be daunted by it.  The secret is to break planning your wedding down into manageable chunks, make a plan and stick to it.  That way you won’t be too tired to enjoy the big day when it comes.
